Haelden in the original homeland of the Haelic people. A cold, harsh land it bred powerful people who were forced to fight for everything they had. The land was full of dense, dark forests and jagged mountains all full of monsters and mythic beasts. The original Haelic people built huge fortresses of stone, sometimes carved out of the living rock of mountains and hills.
Haelic kings, known as Hael Lords kept grand halls full of trusted warriors they looked on as family. These warrior bands were known as thyrdrals and numbered from 50-100 men all bonded by blood oaths to serve and and die for their king. After the thyrdral the king could call on his subjects who, in time of need formed into militias known and ungard, a term that is still used for local militias in the Shire of Vale.
Haelden was toppled from greatness and its people driven into the corners of the world when a coalition of giants, ogres, trolls and other powerful creatures mustered together to take retribution on the Haelic people for ages of monster hunting, epic quests, slayings, and warring against their kind for the purpose of expansion and carving out their own exsistence.
